Conducting the Extractive Industry (EI) Sector and Compliance Audit (CA) Workshop

 

 

  1.  The experts from Office of the Auditor General of Norway (OAGN), Mr. Anders Pilskog and Ms. Ann-Kristrin Nymo, made the Extractive Industry (EI) Sector and Compliance Audit (CA) Workshop with the Compliance Audit Team who will conduct the Extractive Industry Sector from the Office Of the Auditor General of the Union of Myanmar (OAGM) at the Meeting Room of the Office of the Auditor General of the Union, Nay Pyi Taw from 13th to 21st June, 2019.
  2. In the Workshop, the experts from OAGN reviewed and recommended on the Audit Plan, the subject Matter, the Audit Objectives, Audit Criteria and Risk determined by the Compliance Audit Team in the Planning Phase and the Compliance Audit Teams completed and finalized the Planning Phase by working as Group – Work Session. The experts also explained the case studies of SAI Peru and SAI Kenya regarding the loss of substantial revenue due to overstating their project costs of Oil and Gas Companies, the Guide to Australian Practice about mineral royalties and other mining specific taxes. And the experts also presented the audit procedures in the Execution Phase and the facts to be included in the Execution Phase of the Compliance Audit Handbook.
  3.  By holding the workshop, the participants gained the knowledge about the facts needed to fulfill in the Planning Phase, the audit experience about EI Sector of other SAIs and the audit procedures to be conducted effectively in the field work.
  4. The Deputy Director Generals from the Audit Department and the responsible persons from the Compliance Audit Team, a total number of 25, attended the workshop.
  5. At the last day of Workshop, the experts from OAGN met with Permanent Secretary and Director General (Audit Department). They discussed the way forwards for conducting Compliance Audit on two areas of EI Sector such as preparing the audit program, doing Skype meeting with the experts, holding workshops for field work and reporting.
