Office of the Auditor General of the Union of Myanmar and Office of the Auditor General of Norway jointly held the Workshop on the Environmental Audit

 

1.The Office of the Auditor General of the Union of Myanmar (OAGM) and the Office of the Auditor General of Norway (OAGN) jointly held the Workshop on the Environmental Audit at the OAGM, Nay Pyi Taw from February 19 to 20, 2019.

2. In the workshop, the audit experts from the OAGN explained the definition of the environmental audit, basic concepts, theory and framework, and related auditing standards and guidelines in line with theInternational Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions - ISSAI. The Norway experts discussedthe environmental perspective in performance auditing and linking them, inter-linkages between the environmental audit and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), performing risk assessment and analysis, designing an audit, establishing the audit criteria, data and its sources at the planning stage of the environmental audit, the experiences from the environmental audits in Norway and Uganda, the main environmental threats in Myanmar, identifying related audited entities which are responsible for environmental issues, and the laws and regulationsprescribed to be applied. Moreover, the experts also exchanged their ideas on the experiences of, and questions raised by, the participants.

3. By holding the workshop, the participants reached the perceptions and knowledge about how to conduct the environmental audit in line withthe ISSAI, the importance of the environmental audit, the selection of audit topic, how to conduct the audit in related fields and how to disclose audit findings in audit reports, and this will help in the conduct of the environmental audit.

4. The Permanent Secretary, the Director General (Audit Department), Deputy Directors General from the OAGM, the audit experts from the OAGN, officers and stafffrom theOAGM, Offices of the Auditor Generalof Regions/States and different levels of Audit Offices, a total number of 78, attended the workshop.
